Lead Technical Artist

Offer description People Can Fly New York is looking for a Lead Technical Artist to help mentor the Art team in best practices for content development and to set the entire technical art direction for a major AAA IP. You should have an expert understanding of next-generation visual aesthetics and an equal technical knowledge. You should be experienced in every aspect of the content creation pipeline as well as be able to think outside the box to come up with techniques that work better or faster than current solutions. Your focus will be to lead a small technical art team to develop best in class tools and custom solutions for the creation and implementation of a proficient next-generation art pipeline.
  • Work hand in hand with the Art Director, Technical Director and Art Leads to set the technical guidelines for content development
  • Develop powerful and efficient workflows for the Art team working together with the Engineering Leads
  • Research and implement new techniques and procedures to improve game asset quality
  • Help improve and refine shader, texture, lighting quality
  • Explore and help develop new technologies for integration into the asset pipeline
  • Identify and resolve pipeline issues
  • Analyze and improve art asset inefficiencies to optimize console and PC performance
  • Act as a liaison between the Engineering and Art departments
  • At least 8+ years of game development experience
  • At least two AAA titles developed and shipped from start to finish
  • Experience in all aspects of creating game content for PS4, Xbox One and PC
  • Extensive experience working with UE4
  • Expert Maya knowledge
  • Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Zbrush/Mudbox and Substance Designer
  • Max Scripting and HLSL or shader programming experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of current 3D graphics techniques
  • Strong knowledge of particle systems, environmental effects, cloth simulations, lighting, and dynamics
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving
  • Scripting and plug-in writing skills with Maya plus Python or C++
